Essentially, the HKL1024's Message Boards can be used in two ways :

The guest user mode can be used by choosing Reception hall or Isle of Man without signing up and signing in ( see below ). It allows you to get experience with this website, so you can decide if you will start using this website regularly.
In the guest mode, you have access to basic features, which include emotes as prepared texts to be used by sending the corresponding command as your message ( List of emotes is available ). The second important feature available in guest users mode are emoticons ( smileys ), also small images used to express your emotion.
You can use message autocompleting feature for emotes by typing the forward slash, then the first letter(s) of the emote you would like to send and then pressing the Tab key ( the key left to the Q key on your keyboard ).

Users with registered usernames ( nicknames ) have access to the whole message board system, which includes nice features like :
Personalised user profiles, which allow you to tell others about yourself, with possibility to create separated profiles for friends ( see below ) and for other users.
User profiles can contain one profile image and one background sound file.
Personal image collection, which can be used to upload images to your collection and then ask others to send your comments to the images.
List of your friends to keep track of your friends you made on this website and to let them access your special profile for your friends.
Advanced settings let you change appearance of the message boards, you can change text and background colours, decide if you want to see date and time stamps with the messages and various other settings.
This website allows you to create your own emotes as well, so you can impress your friends and/or other users.
The message autocompleting feature allows you to use it for completing user names present in your message board and some commonly used words as well, e. g. hiya, happy and so on.

To sign up to create your username, choose Sign up on the front page, or, if you are in Reception hall or Isle of Man, you can type /signup as your message as well.
Signing up is free of charge and you will not be asked to provide any personal information.

If you already have a username, you can sign in by using your username and password on the Sign in page, you choose Sign in on the front page to do this.
